How Building Your Own Smokehouse Can Satisfy A Smoker’s Dream
Step 8 – Build Your Smokehouse!
To build your cedar smokehouse, you’re going to want to watch Video 4 below. Also, DIYer Nick has some incredibly awesome photos of his project here. The two smokehouses featured in this post look the same on the outside, but a little different on the inside! Nick’s project is super designed for hanging meats. In his photos below, see how he has cut his side boards with half rounds to be able to insert rods for hanging meat:
Here is what it looks like once the sides of the smokehouse are built.
And here it is with the meat hanging from the rods!
As a DIYer, you can always put your own spin on your smokehouse, but you’re going to want to learn how to build a port for the smoke to come out of the top of the smokehouse and a stack house to go over the port. You’ll also want to learn how to build your roof, the partition for your wood, the front door, and about adding temperature gauges, which can all be seen in Tim Farmer’s video collection below, starring John Aker, Craftsman Extroardinaire. Tim of Tim Farmers Country Kitchen visits with John as he shares his Smokehouse tutorial.

Can one get a blue print or printed directions for the this smokehouse so one can build it?
James, we were not able to find any blueprints or printed directions for the smokehouse in our blog, but we would like to suggest that you contact John Akers directly to see if he can help you. His email and phone number is on Page 6 of our post. Another option is to try seeking out advice on the forum where we found Nick, also featured in our article. Click on his name to see his smokehouse thread! Good luck with your project. Be sure to show us your finished project.
