[TUTORIAL] Make Use Of That Old Entertainment Center – Surprise Your Daughter!

Every Little Girls Dream

Who could deny their daughter this play kitchen? You’re not going to believe this, but I recently hauled an old entertainment center from our warehouse to the street curb. Within minutes a truck drove by and the driver asked what I was going to do with it. I told him he could have it (P-L-E-A-S-E haul it off). With much pleasure and excitement in his voice, he pulled the unit up into the back of his tuck and off it went! If only I’d known how it could have been repurposed. It never even entered my mind to create something more fun and exciting with the dreadful thing, but my hope is that the driver had the same idea in his mind for that seasoned monstrosity from the 80′ as these grandparents did for their granddaughter!

It all started with this pre-loved TV unit that they got for $30!

Shelves were added to what was the cupboard to make it a fridge & freezer.

A hole was cut in the shelf where the TV once sat and a tap was added. The fridge and freezer were fitted for their doors. The microwave was added to the top corner of the TV space.

A ‘window’ was added by placing a photo behind a piece of clear perspex with a frame around it and attaching it to the wall. Mum made curtains and matching tea towels. The stove top is a piece of timber with four coasters glued on it to act as hotplates and the four knobs were added down the side of the stove top. Dad even added little baskets to the inside of the fridge door so it looked just like a real fridge.

We want to thank Amy, a wife and mother, over at GiggleBerryCreations for sharing the project she had her parents make for her daughter.

Amy was inspired by the renovated entertainment center we have featured on the next page. It’s equally as cool but with different features! Check it out! It’s certain to get your creative juices flowing.
